A Couple of Reveals And A Giveaway
I got a little behind with the holidays, but also wanted to try something new. So instead of full blog posts of the values of all the items in my yarn subscriptions that I receivedlast month, I made up two videos with the breakdowns already included.
My first is from Yarnbox. It is the November 2014 box. I got some really nice yarn from New Zealand (spoiler alert: more possum yarn.)
The second is from Knitcrate. It is the November 2014 Int/Adv Knitter crate. It had an awesome scarf in a scarf kit and a item that I’m giving away below, so be sure to head below the video for that.

I am excited to have found this site. I taught myself to crochet during a BIG snowstorm in the northeast while pregnant with my first child …. we were snowed in for 3 days! I started a blanket that took me a year to complete. I am currently working on another blanket, for the same child now 9, and look forward to learning some new techniques to personalize it for her. Hopefully I can complete this one in 6 months or less and start on one for the next child. YOUR VIDEOS ARE GREAT and rather soothing with such a passive and caring tone of voice. I will be teaching a beginners class for young girls this spring and am looking for easy to follow resources for them ….. you are #1 on the list!!!

As for my last project — a Stephen West hat, named Precocious Briocheous, that was my first time using brioche stitch! Lots of fun, and very very warm. I did manage to lose a couple stitches after throwing it (while still on needles) in my bag. I recovered though, phew.

My last project was a beanie for someone at my school. She saw me crocheting and asked me to make her one. It was difficult to find a pattern that I liked and matched the hook I had, so I made my own and added a border using a headband pattern. It turned out great for my first hat.

I watched YouTube to learn a new stitch, as I often do, and decided to keep going with the pattern. My small tutorial sample (which was too wide for a scarf) became a shawl that alternated colors in a raspberry variegated and a creamy beige color in alternating rows! Wearing it today! It’s warm and wonderful.

I just finished my first Afghan. I didn’t know how many chains to cast on so I looked at a pattern my sister-in-mailed me 30 years ago. It called for 275 and I thought that was a lot so I settled for 250. I didn’t realize it was a pattern to be stitched top to bottom instead of side to side. LOL a real novice. I ended up with a twin size “blanket”that overhangs about 4” on each side. I added a border of 3 rows of single stitches and a contrasting shell border. I can’t wait to start a new project.
