Vintage Awesomeness 80’s Edition

I would've been so jealous of the bangs.
I would’ve been so jealous of the bangs.

I love old crochet patterns. Not necessarily for the pattern itself, but more for the look back at the era the photo for the pattern was taken in.

This “awesome” photo is from an 80’s edition of Crochet Fantasy.

Being a kid of the 80s I can’t help but relive the days with this photo. The sponged graphic lines of the artwork in the thin gold frame behind the model. Her hand on the black lacquered furniture that was probably purchased at Levitz (bonus points for leaving their slogan in the comments.) The bold earrings and the hair that is most likely in a banana clip. The best part of all is of course the quintessential 80’s feathered bangs.

I had puny bangs and could never get the heights achieved here, so I’m very jealous. I just love this picture. Did I miss anything that stands out to you in the picture of being “totally” 80s. Let me know below, or share your own favorite 80’s trend.

Love this post. I had the “big hair” worn in a banana clip and don’t forget the spiral perm in my hair that was down to my waist! Also, the leg warmers with skinny leg jeans. I had the black lacquer furniture with “brass” trim. So many things of the 80’s were great and honestly I miss my big hair! 🙂

I used to have a pastel yellow sweater rather like the one pictured, but I knitted it rather than crocheted. I did used to wear it with a belt too. As for the hair… mine was (and is) far too fine to manage such sculpting!

Too funny! Carla beat me to the Levitz commercial- “You’ll love it at Levitz”.
I turned 20 in 1980 so it was a very busy decade for me!
I could never do the truly BIG hair either, and if I remember correctly- I didn’t even wear the “IN” bangs.
That vest top? I like it very much and DID wear quite a few sweater vests, but never pastels. I was such a rebel…HA HA!

All I did was crochet baby blankets. Being older that was during the time all my friends were having babies. Money was tight so every one got shell baby blankest. You would have to go back another 20 yrs for me! LOL

    “You’ll love it at Levitz!”

Wow but this photo really brings back memories as I was also a teen in the ’80s. Best musical decade ever. Fashion, well, I suppose that bigger is better is the best way to put it. Big hair, big bangs, big shoulder pads, etc. Lots and lots of hairspray. Thanks for the fun!

I love the 80’s also and it’s funny that when I go to get my hair done, I always remind my stylist that I’m an 80’s woman and that means I want ‘volume’. She always laughs but does try…..however, I usually have to come home and re-tease (as we used to call it) my hair anyway. Although I wasn’t born in the 80’s (you young person you), I still like everything about it including the music then. I remember Levitz but do not recall their slogan. I will however, leave you with a line from a song of Prince: “You don’t have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude”, so yes, when it comes to my hair, just call me Crystal Carrington, LOL.
