Two comments in a bit, but first, I want to say that I own a staggering number of your patterns, having bought most of them three times: print, Kindle, and pdf. I love the fact that you have enough detail to be interesting, but not so much that it makes the work miserable. Don’t get me wrong: I do lots of patterns marked “advanced” that take 4000 to 9000 yds of yarn and take forever. But I like to have projects that have a nice repeat so I can just relax and enjoy the process, although I like even those to be worthwhile. Yours are perfect!

First, I compared three brands of ergonomic hooks, and while the wedge-shaped heads of some of the Clover knock-offs were better for some things, I found that the Clover hooks slipped through the yarn better. It almost seems, when you look at them under magnification, that they have a Teflon-type coating.

Second, for larger hooks, I prefer the KnitPicks wooden hooks (I have Caspian, which are beautiful) over the ergonomic hooks. The entire length is available to form stitches in thicker yarns, and the space available with larger ergonomic hooks is limited. For 4mm and below, I prefer ergonomic hooks. (You can remove the rubbery grips from cheap ergonomic sets to put on metal hooks, but it can be a struggle.)

    Yours truly, Jacqueline Kiffe

Thank you so much for the kind words, and thank you so much for taking the time to give such a thoughtful reply.

I finally went with a wood hook for my size K because I didn’t like any of the metal or plastic store bought (my wood hook is from Queen B) and I love it. I think I will need to try some of the caspian in the larger sizes now. 🙂
