I SC in Row 5, When I got the the end of Row 6 the number of bobbles was not correct. I have counted the number of single crochet I did in Row 5 and I get 122 instead of 125. Can you help we figure out where I lost 3 stitches? Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

Hi Deja,
I’m a beginner (self-taught) crocheter and have just completed the owl basket. It came out great and I received many compliments on it. I just ordered your Petite Basketweave patterns for the beanie and the cowl from Craftsy. When I ordered the items a couple of weeks ago, they were both listed under “beginner”. When I downloaded the pattern yesterday, it said “intermediate”. I went back to Craftsy today, and now they are listed under “intermediate”. I fell in love with the look of the petite basketweave… but I’m pretty lost with your Tall CH… I really don’t understand it. I’ve scoured the internet to see if I could find some kind of video tutorial, but I could not. Is there anywhere you can point me for more directions and visuals?

I’m making the owl basket. Thank you for the pattern. I love it! My question is … now I have hit row 18 and I don’t quite understand the instructions. (HDC2TOG, HDC in next 6 sts) Does this mean to do 2 HDC in the same stich and then one HDC in the next 6 stiches? Thanks for your help. Amanda O’Bryan
LikeLike
Hi there, the HDC2TOG is a decreasing stitch. You will YO, insert your hook in the next ST, then YO, insert your hook in the next ST and then YO and pull that loop through all loops on your hook. That will turn two HDC stitches into 1. 🙂 Then make an HDC in each of the next 6 STS.

Hi I just finished row 20 of the owl basket and I used lion brand 6ply hometown yarn because I fell in love with the color it is aspen tweed. The problem is I have used 16 skeins of yarn and have to go back for more. The basket is huge ….I used four strands and it’s very thick but I feel I’ve done something wrong. The skeins are 64 yards each so that would make 1024 yards so far . Any ideas on what I’ve done wrong?
LikeLike
How is your gauge? For the Hometown, I would only use 2 strands because it is so thick. I would change to a 9mm hook as well. This is the combo I used in the Owl Basket Two pattern. It will come out closer to finished size. 🙂
LikeLike
My gauge seems fine I checked it in the beginning.,i will check it again though. I just think somehow I’ve used way to much yarn you called for 900 yards total and I’ve surpassed that and I’m only 3/4 of the way. It looks great just big so I’m going to pull the whole thing out and start again. Ugh! I will try a 9mm hook and the two strands, that’s a lot more doable too. I will let you know how it works out. My fingers were numb with the four strands I was keeping my loops tight. Two will be so much easier. Thank you for answering my question.oops another question if I use only two strands of yarn for the body I would assume only one for the eyes??? Thank you again 😃
LikeLike
Correct. Just one strand for the eye. I can believe the numb fingers with the four strands of super bulky. 🙂 It’s tough enough using the four strands of bulky. The two strands will be much easier.
LikeLike
So much easier thank you. It’s looking good got there in the half the time it took me to do the four strands. But I gotta say the four strand one makes a beautiful basket. Pulled half of it put and its a great way to store your yarn. Thank you for all the help. I love that we can ask you questions. Oh by the way the owl basket is taking so much less yarn I’m back to where I was when I asked you what was wrong. I had used 24 balls of yarn at this point and now I’ve only used 2 and a half. Big difference! Thank you again

2 skeins of yarn got me to 13 1/2 rows on the owl basket. Maybe it’s because I only used 2 strands of super bulky yarn. But at least I finally got started. I have a pic of where I’m at so far bit it wouldn’t let me paste or copy it to this.

Sounds like you are doing good. 13 is about the half way point. I wish we could post pictures through the comments, it would be so helpful.

Ok but what happens when you get to the end of the skeins?
LikeLike
You just cut your ends. You will finish the basket portion long before you run out of yarn. Once you cut the strands. You will again have a center pull strand and an outside strand for each of the two balls. Then you can use one strand from each (either inny or outty) ball to make the two strand eyes. 🙂

I just made the “working with multiple strand video” and will edit it. It’s much faster to put together than the amigurumi tutorial, so I will upload that in the next day or so.

I’m having trouble understanding how to start with 4 strands! I watched the video on MAGIC LOOP AND CENTER PULL YARN BALL but it’s not clicking. I’m assuming that by using the center pull yarn ball you would use both ends of skein and that would be your 2 strands? So you would have to use both skeins simutaneously to come up with 4 strands to start? But then your going to end up with 2 loops unable to add onto unless you cut it. Seams like 2 skeins isn’t enough yarn. Sometimes I just have to see someone doing it for it to click! Maybe by reading the comments and determining the key areas that people are having the most problems with you could do a mini tutorial on those areas
LikeLike
You are correct with the four strands. If you are using the recommended yarn, you only need two hanks. You will pull from both sides as you work. You can also substitute with other bulky yarn. Some such as Lion Brand Thick and Quick or Hometown USA is so thick that you can use just two strands of it to make gauge. I do have a video coming up with how to work with multiple strands of yarn at once. It is next in the queue line (you can see the queue on the right hand side of all the pages) after an amigurumi tutorial. Other than the four strands, all of the other stitches and techniques have tutorials already. 🙂

I am having trouble as well. Patern looked very simple and I’m sure once I get started it will be but the problem is getting started! I was hoping to get at least 2 baskets done for my daughter for Christmas. Hi there, I will be making a video on working with multiple strands of yarn very soon (it’s on the Viewer Request Queue). In the mean time, using four strands is basically making your own really thick yarn. You hold it all together and work the stitches as normal.

oh, ok. if I’m already using a woll, super bulky yarn do I still need to do this?

With Super bulky you will probably only need two strands held together to make gauge. If you don’t mind the basket being a different size, don’t worry about gauge, Just make you stitches really tight so the basket will be stiff.
