Knit and Crochet Ever After

Moss Stitch Beginner Cowl

I’ve designed this free crochet cowl pattern with beginners in mind. I wanted to create something that allows new crocheters to easily develop their skills while ending up with a beautiful, eye-catching accessory. The stitch pattern I’ve used is nice and simple, but it creates such an interesting textured fabric that really elevates the finished piece. Despite its simplicity, the cowl has a wonderfully sophisticated look that belies just how straightforward it is to make.

To ensure even total beginners can follow along, I’ve put together a detailed step-by-step video tutorial that demonstrates each part of the pattern. I break everything down with clear visuals so you can see exactly how it’s done. Once you’ve watched the video and gotten the hang of the stitches, you can download the full written pattern below the video. It includes all the information you need like materials, sizing, and the complete row-by-row instructions to refer to as you crochet.

I’m so excited to share this pattern as I think it’s the perfect first textured crochet project. You’ll learn some great techniques while making an accessory that looks much more complicated than it actually is! I can’t wait for you to try out this beginner-friendly yet striking crochet cowl.
