Knitcrate August 2018 Reveal

Knitcrate Indigo Glow

I just got my August 2018 Knitcrate basic membership in the mail and I’m excited to show you what I received.

This month’s theme is Indigo Glow.

Instead of a regular card like previous months, this month’s them information came in a booklet that also contained both of the free patterns from this month. More on those in a minute, first the yarn!

This month I received Uru Yarn in a beautiful turquoise with deep indigo flecks.

Just look at how pretty the color is!

The colorway I received is Undertow and the yarn is a 100% Superwash Merino in a fingering weight. Each of the two skeins contains 417 yards so it’s perfect for either a knit or crochet project.

Then we can get to the patterns!!

Two beautiful shawl patterns came with the crate this month.

Gullywasher by Carissa Browning and Caribbean Escape by Jennifer Dickerson. Both beautiful, lightweight shawls that will make a great transition from summer to fall. Which one is your favorite?

Mardi Gras Vibes With This Month’s Knit Crate

Knitcrate July 2018!!!

I just got my July 2018 Knitcrate basic membership in the mail… finally after a little mishap with the mailbox.

It took a couple of days for the mailman to realize that I wasn’t going to be able to get this out.

Once I was able to actually get the box in my hands, I was able to see the theme.

The theme this month is Modern Primary.

Explore a fresh look at the familiar rainbow with bold intense color!

I love all things rainbow, so I was really excited to see what the yarn would be.

The yarn this month is from Knitologie and I’m loving the purples, blues and golds that are looking like a Mardi Gras parade.

The variegated yarn has a nice twist to keep pilling down.

I received colorway “Dashboard” and the yarn is a squishy soft medium worsted 100% Superwash Merino.

180 yards per the two hanks you receive means you can easily make a scarf in either knit or crochet.

Then came the patterns:

First the knit Beachball Cowl by Virginia Sattler-Keimer, a fun lacy cowl perfect for the summer.

Then the crocheted Yoga Socks by Laura Bain, a comfy pair of open-toed socks to use on the mat.

We All Scream For…

Knitcrate Ice Scream Theme!!!

I just got my June 2018 Knitcrate basic membership in the mail and I’m excited to show you what I received.

First off, I received the same super cute and handy Knitcrate box with this cute little message under the tissue paper:

Next, I pulled out this month’s theme card and had a read.

The fresh neons and icy brights of this month’s shipment will have you screaming for more.

Then, I was on to the good stuff.

Vidalana is our beautiful yarn this month.

Not only is it a beautiful turquoise, but it’s super soft and squishy! Just look at the contents!

75% Superwash Merino, 15% Nylon and 10% Cashmere!!

You will have the softest socks/scarf/shawl on the block!

The colorway I received is called “Chewies” and I would love to figure out what that might refer to. If you have any clue leave me a comment below.

The yarn is a nice fingering weight with over 400 yards per hank so this is great for knit or crochet.

But wait! There’s more! We also get two patterns for each Knitcrate. One in knit:

This month it is the Minty Fresh Shawl from designer Tiaga Hilliard.

A beautiful lacy shawl that would work with your summertime beach outfit.

And a crochet pattern:

Lemoncello by designer Kahlurah Hudson (love her name!)

A cute lacy poncho that would be a perfect swimsuit topper.

My New BQueen Collection Hook Arrived ~ Check It Out!!!

Which one did I choose?
Which one did I choose?

After trying out the BQueen Collection Dye Box, I fell in love with the hooks I saw on their website. I wanted to order one right away.

I sent my request to the awesome husband and wife team of Brian and Makenzie and they said, “just make another video and we’ll send you a hook.”

I said, “You bet!”

I chose my size and wood and told them which topper I liked and I left the rest up to them. I got a custom-made hook that I love so much! I’m not giving anything else away though. If you want to see which wood and design I received and all the awesome features of the hook, you’ll have to check out the video below.

Also, their dye box giveaway is still going on through June 20th so go sign up for their newsletter to be entered.

Come Dye With Me and Get 10% Off and Win A Dye Box !

The Dye Box
The Dye Box

I was sent a Dye Box from the folks over at BQueen Collection to try out and give my honest opinion.

What is a Dye Box you ask?

I’ll let BQueen break it down for you:

Our BQueen Collection Dye Box is a simple DIY kit for dyeing your own yarn naturally. By taking out some of the preliminary steps for you, we make it easy yet very rewarding to find color on a bare hank.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX:

  • At least 100g of quality yarn, ready to dye (we’ll change up the fiber content and yarn weight too!)
  • Every month is a different surprise yarn color
  • Natural Dye, already measured out specifically for your yarn in a cute little cork bottle
  • Your dye tools, consisting of nitrile gloves, stirring utensils, and a paper cup for mixing

What they don’t tell you is how addicting this is. My surprise color was just that — a total surprise. I had no idea the color in the bottle would change so dramatically. Check out the video below for a full reveal of the box and see the color change.

It was so simple and so fun, I loved the process of seeing what I was going to get, not only in the box, but the yarn color that results from the dyeing. The package was so beautiful and well thought out. You really didn’t need anything extra besides the pot to “cook” your yarn in. Now I have a beautiful, high quality hank of yarn to make a project with.

The Dye Box is available as a  monthly subscription. This was such a great first dyeing experience, I would love to do it every month.

If you’ve ever wanted to try dyeing, or know someone who does, this would make an awesome gift. I think you will love creating your own custom hank.

They Don’t Just Sell Dye Boxes Either

They also sell crochet hooks!!!

There is a reason they call themselves the BQueen. If you notice the ends of each of the crochet hooks look just like queen pieces from chess. I have one of these on their way and I cannot wait.

You can choose your wood, hook size and topper and they will custom make the hook for you.

And if you notice in the picture, this may be the first wood hook that I know that does this, but they include a thumb rest on the hook so that you can easily orientate yourself without having to look at the hook. Such a great idea. I don’t have any other wood hooks that include this.

Didn’t You Say I Could Get 10% Off And Win A Dye Box?

You bet I did.
