HI! I’m totally addicted to crochet but it doesn’t seem to love me as much as I love it…..i was adviced that I was doing something wrong with the magic loop. Everytime I try to make even a square it starts to roll into a curly thingy!

Very interesting. My height never matches gauge but luckily it’s shorter (so I’m a yanker) and I’m always needing to add more rows. I’m going to pay attention now and try to correct this. Thank you for sharing

Thank you so much for explaining this! Everywhere I have searched, there were explanations about how to achieve the correct width, but I didn’t have any trouble with the width, it was always the row height that messed me up. I am in the process of crocheting my fourth sweater and ran into the problem once again. I had to alter the pattern to get the right length on the other three sweaters, and was on the way to having to do it yet again. Your instructions have saved me! I have been a “tugger”, but no more. I changed my technique and now my row heights are just right! I am so excited!! As if that wasn’t great enough, I find that my new technique is so much more relaxing and I’m enjoying crocheting more than ever. Thank you again!

I’m an avid crocheter for 40 years and I could never figure out why my gauge swatches were always too tall in height but my width was spot on. Thank you so much for this. Now I can rectify this problem successfully. I had never heard of this concept before.

Wow! I am a self-taught, novice (thanks to video posters like you). I could never figure out why the height of my gauge is always too tall, even if only slightly. I love that you explained the 2-chain vs. 3-chain beginning stitch on double crochet rows. I have noticed that conflict in a few patterns that I have made. Thank you for your excellent tutorial.

Thank you for this tutorial. I have never understood why I had trouble with gauge. Changing hooks wasn’t helping. Now I have a much better idea what is wrong and what to do about it. Maybe now I can try some patterns where gauge matters!
