Yarn Selection
You will need approx. 475 yards of DK weight yarn to make the same size capelet pictured. Unfortunately, the yarn used in the picture is no longer available, but I will give some recommendations below for other great substitutes at different price points.
$

Lion Brand Wool-Ease DK is a lightweight, versatile yarn that blends the warmth of wool with the easy care of acrylic. Perfect for both knit and crochet projects, it offers a soft feel and excellent stitch definition, making it ideal for garments, accessories, and lightweight blankets. The DK weight gives a smooth drape without being too heavy, and since it’s machine washable, it’s a practical choice for everyday wear and gifting.
$$

Ewe & Billy is a luxurious DK weight yarn spun from a blend of 75% Merino wool and 25% kid mohair, bringing together the best of softness, strength, and elegance. Its two-ply construction gives projects a smooth texture and gentle sheen, while the fiber mix provides warmth and durability without sacrificing comfort. Perfect for knitters and crocheters alike, it’s an ideal choice for creating timeless garments and accessories that feel as beautiful as they look.

Madelinetosh Farm Twist is the ultimate in soft, squishy comfort — a yarn so irresistible you’ll find it hard to set aside. Hand-dyed in Texas using ethically sourced South African wool, it’s crafted from two strands of Tosh Merino Light twisted together for added texture and strength. This beautiful yarn delivers crisp stitch definition and comes in an array of stunning glazed solids and variegated hues, making it a versatile choice for everything from cozy sweaters to statement blankets and beyond.
Knitting Needles Used For Pattern
You will need US 8 [5mm] 20″ circulars for this pattern. I’ve listed a favorite fixed cable version and a interchangeable set below.

ChiaoGoo Fixed Circular Knitting Needles are renowned for their high-quality stainless steel construction, offering a smooth, lightweight, and durable knitting experience. The precision-crafted tips provide excellent stitch control, making them ideal for intricate patterns and lacework. Featuring a flexible, memory-free red nylon-coated steel cable, these needles prevent kinks and tangles, ensuring a frustration-free knitting process.

If you’re starting out, a bamboo needle set is a great cost-effective choice—but if you’re serious about knitting and ready to invest, the Addi Click Set – Short Lace is in a league of its own. With sharp lace tips, smooth joins, and flexible cords, these needles make even the most intricate projects faster, easier, and more enjoyable.
Additional Supplies Needed
The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.
