These cozy, textured leg warmers are the kind you’ll find yourself slipping on all season long—whether you’re heading out into the chill or just trying to stay warm at home. The pattern includes three sizes, so you can make a pair that fits just right (or whip up a few for friends). Grab your yarn, get comfy, and let’s make something warm and snuggly together.
You’ll find everything you need to crochet the mitts below, including the yarn, crochet hook, a free pattern, and a video tutorial that includes how to change sizes. If you like this pattern, please share it!
The video tutorial comes with step-by-step instructions as well as a bonus tip at the end on how to make sure both of your leg warmers are the same size as you work them.

Crochet Tutorials
If you’re new to crochet, no worries! I have many beginner tutorial videos to guide you through every step of the process. My tutorials are designed to be easy to follow and will help you master the basics and beyond. You can use the search bar anytime to look for a particular stitch or technique.
Crochet Stitches Used For The Leg Warmers
The main two stitches used throughout the leg warmers is single crochet and double crochet. If you are new to crochet, I have slower video tutorials available that will walk you through working the single crochet stitch, double crochet stitch and the single crochet in the back loop only (used on the cuff) used in this pattern that you can watch before you start this project.

Materials
The Crunch Leg Warmers were made with Red Heart Super Saver in Medium Thyme. I love Super Saver for low-cost projects as well as the structure the yarn gave the leg warmers. Substitute with medium worsted with a good density to keep the shape of the leg warmers. You will need approx 340 yards for the largest size. Reduce by 20 yards each size down.
The pattern uses a 6 mm [US-J] crochet hook. I used my new favorite hook made by Prym. I’ve got a video review for the hooks if you’ve never heard of Prym. You can check that out here.
Additional Supplies Needed
The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.

Gauge For Pattern
To achieve the same size as listed below, you will need the following gauge: 3”= 10 sts x 10 rows on the cuff.

Finished Measurements
Finished Measurements: Choose a size that is not completely stretched out at the top cuff so you have room to move as your muscles expand and contract.
Small = approx. 10” cuff (not stretched), 15” cuff (stretched) x 16” length. Bottom cuff is 10”
Medium = approx. 12” cuff (not stretched), 18” cuff (stretched) x 16” length. Bottom cuff is 12”
Large = approx. 14” cuff (not stretched), 20” cuff (stretched) x 16” length. Bottom cuff is 14”
The bottom cuff is not meant to stretch so it will sit in the arch of your foot without moving up. They can also be worn at the ankle if that is preferred.

Joining Instructions
Join to form tube for top of leg warmer. Insert hook thru SC just made and bottom bump of foundation CH on other end of work, YO, pull thru all loops to join. (This creates a SL ST join to connect the tube together) Continue across, do not fasten off. Turn inside out so the seam is on the inside of your work.

Leg warmer Body all sizes:
Note: Instructions will be written for small with medium and large in parenthesis.
RND 1: CH 1, SC evenly around 37 (41, 45) STS and join RND with SL ST in the 1st SC made. 37 STS (41, 45)
Note: Since there will not be traditional stitches to insert your hook into you will have to be careful of inserting your hook at even distances and heights as you go around to keep the top uniform. Just make sure at the end of the round you have the appropriate number of stitches.
RND 2: CH 1, *SC, DC; repeat from * around, ending with a SC in the last ST. Join RND with SL ST in 1st SC made. 37 STS (41, 45)
RND 3: CH 1, *SC in SC of row below, DC in DC of row below; repeat from * around, ending with a SC in the last ST. Join RND with SL ST in 1st SC made. 37 STS (41, 45)
RNDs 4-36: Repeat RND 3. 37 STS (41, 45)
Bottom Cuff, for all sizes:
RNDs 1 and 2: SL ST in every stitch around.
At end of RND 2, fasten off and weave in ends.

I am starting one leg warmer and have about 4 inches done after the cuff. This is my second attempt. Mine are lumpy where the double crochets are, Yours do not look lumpy. I am making them for my granddaughter. I love the finished look on yours, but mine, not so much. Any suggestions?

Depending on how large you make your double crochets, they might look slightly lumpy due to the stitch pattern itself. Try to make your double crochets a little tighter so there won’t be as much height difference between the two stitches to reduce the lumpiness.

I can’t find the downloadable pattern for your crunch leg warmers. I’ve saved and shared your video on them via my Facebook page, but would like to have the readable printed pattern for them as well.
Thanks so much!

The download pattern doesn’t open on mobile. I just checked on the PC browser and it is indeed there on the bottom of the page 🙂
