Crochet Tutorials
If you’re new to crochet, no worries! I have many beginner tutorial videos to guide you through every step of the process. My tutorials are designed to be easy to follow and will help you master the basics and beyond. You can use the search bar anytime to look for a particular stitch or technique.

Crochet Stitch Used For The Pouf
The stitch used for the pouf is basic half double crochet, making the project nice and easy. If you are new to crochet I have slower video tutorials available that will walk you through working half double crochet in the round, increasing, decreasing and everything else used in this pattern that you can watch before you start this project.
Yarn Selection

For this project, I used Bernat Blanket Yarn. Bernat Blanket Yarn is a super bulky, chenille-style yarn that is incredibly soft and plush, making it perfect for cozy blankets, pillows, and home décor projects. Made from 100% polyester, it is both durable and machine washable, making it a great choice for everyday use.
Other Yarn Options
If you’d like to substitute Bernat Blanket Yarn for the Chic Floor Pouf, you’ll need a super bulky yarn to maintain the structure and size. Alternatively, you can hold together multiple strands of a bulky weight yarn if there’s a specific yarn or color you love. Just be sure to keep your stitches tight to prevent any polyfill from escaping, ensuring a sturdy and durable pouf that holds its shape over time.
Below are some other options that are a great substitute for the Bernat Blanket Yarn, which come in different price ranges.
$

Lion Brand Hometown Yarn is a super bulky weight, that will speed up your knit and crochet projects, allowing your creations to come to life with remarkable swiftness. It has a diverse color palette to choose from, so you can customize your project to your taste.
$$

If you’re looking for the perfect super bulky yarn for quick crochet and knitting projects, look no further than Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick! This yarn has a good structure and pretty colors to personalize your pouf.
$$$

Rico Design Essentials Super Chunky is a soft and thick yarn perfect for quick and cozy projects. Made from a blend of wool and acrylic, it offers durability, and a slight sheen that enhances the finished look.
Crochet Hook Used For Pattern
You’ll need a 8mm [US- L] hook for this project. When it comes to larger hook sizes, I’m quite particular—I find that most brands that are metal have shafts that are too short for comfortable use. Most plastic hooks have ridges that make them uncomfortable to hold and lack the smoothness needed for the yarn to glide effortlessly.

After testing numerous brands, I’ve narrowed down my favorites. Below, you’ll find my top picks, ranked from least to most expensive.
$$

In the video tutorial, I am using this Prym Crochet Hook. They have great long shafts and slick plastic. Both this choice and the Clover Amour would be perfect to make the pouf with. I rated this choice $$ because, like my other favorite plastic hook, it’s priced similarly—not a bargain, but absolutely worth it for the quality and comfort.
$$

My other favorite large plastic hook is the Clover Soft Touch Amour hook. I love how smoothly the yarn glides over the long plastic shaft.
$$$

Furls Crochet Hooks are beautifully crafted and made to be ergonomic. They come in a range of materials and colors so you can get wood, metal, or resin depending on your preference. They have nice large shafts and yarn glides wonderfully over every material.
Additional Supplies Needed
The pattern is worked in spirals so you will need a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds. I love the split ring ones below as they come in various sizes (and you’ll need a big one for this project) and the open end is fast to put on and take off as you come to each round.

You will also need some polyfill. Polyfill is a lightweight, fluffy stuffing material commonly used for pillows, amigurumi, and home décor projects like the Chic Floor Pouf. Since the pouf requires a generous amount of filling to maintain its shape and firmness, you’ll need quite a lot of it. I recommend getting the 5 lb box of Poly-Fil, like the Original Poly-Fil, which provides enough stuffing for multiple poufs or other projects. This ensures you have plenty on hand to achieve a full and supportive pouf without running out mid-project.

The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in ends and the pour closed. Be sure to choose a large eye to accommodate the super bulky yarn. I like metal needles like the Susan Bates option below.

Gauge For Pattern
To achieve the same size as listed below, you will need the following gauge: 4”= 9 STS and 6 rows in
pattern. For this project, achieving an exact gauge isn’t critical, but keeping your stitches tight is essential to ensure your pouf doesn’t lose its stuffing.
Video Tutorial
The video tutorial will walk you through the pattern so all levels of crocheters can make this chic home decor project.

Finished Measurements
If following gauge, you can expect the pouf to measure 64″ around and be 13″ tall.
Construction
The pouf is worked in the round from bottom to top using increasing and decreasing to make the shape.
Special Stitches Used In The Pattern
You will need to perform the following special stitch in this pattern. I’ve linked to my super-fast stitch refresher videos in case you need the extra help:
- Half Double Crochet 2 Together (HDC2TOG): YO, insert hook into the first stitch, YO and pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), YO, insert hook into the next stitch, YO and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook), YO, pull through all five loops at once. This completes the decrease, turning two stitches into one.

Thanks for the pattern! How many balls of the Bernat does this use?
Nomali Canoli
Is it okay to use a thinner yarn?
Deja Joy
Yes you can, but it won’t be as big a pouf depending on what you use. 🙂
Nomali Canoli
Okay! Thanks!
