Knit Tutorials

If you’re new to knitting, no worries! I have many beginner tutorial videos to guide you through every step of the process. My tutorials are designed to be easy to follow and will help you master the basics and beyond. You can use the search bar anytime to look for a particular stitch or technique.

Yarn Selection

I used Caron Chunky Cakes yarn for this project. Caron Chunky Cakes Yarn is a popular and versatile yarn choice for knitting and crocheting enthusiasts. Known for its delightful color gradients and soft texture, this yarn offers a unique blend of acrylic and wool fibers, making it both durable and cozy.

You will need approx. 295 yards of Caron Chunky Cakes in Trifle (296617) to make the same scarf pictured.

Otherwise, you can substitute with any super bulky yarn yarn you like.

The great thing about this pattern is that you can also substitute different weight yarns easily. Whatever you have on hand can work. Just be sure to adjust your needle size based on the ball band and cast on whatever amount of stitches you want to make it the desired width.

Self-striping or solid colors will look great in this pattern.

Knitting Needles Used For Pattern

You will need US 11 [8mm] needles for this pattern. You can use straight or circular, whichever you prefer. I have two I enjoy using listed below.

This affordable bamboo knitting needle set from Amazon has every size you’ll need to tackle any project. The smooth, lightweight bamboo makes them comfortable to use and helps prevent stitches from slipping off your needles.

If you’re starting out, a bamboo needle set is a great cost-effective choice—but if you’re serious about knitting and ready to invest, the Addi Click Set – Short Lace is in a league of its own. With sharp lace tips, smooth joins, and flexible cords, these needles make even the most intricate projects faster, easier, and more enjoyable.

Additional Supplies Needed

The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.

Gauge For Pattern

Gauge is 4”= 16.5 sts and 16 rows in pattern to make the same size pictured. However, you don’t have to worry about gauge unless you want it the exact same size. Scarves are great projects for those of us (like me) who don’t enjoy having to make gauge before starting.

Pin For Later

If you’re not ready to start the project yet, pin this page to head back quickly.

Finished Measurements

The finished size of the scarf (when gauge is followed) is approx. 6” wide x 96″ long. A super wrappable scarf to keep you warm all winter.

Construction

The scarf is worked flat in rows.

Special Stitches

Crochet Cast On: To work a crochet cast on in knitting, begin by making a slip knot on your crochet hook, then insert the hook into the slip knot and gently tighten it so it sits on the hook without being snug. Holding the knitting needle in your non-dominant hand, place the needle behind the crochet hook so the hook is in front of the needle. Wrap the yarn over the crochet hook from back to front, then pull the yarn through the loop on the hook to create a new loop. Slide this new loop directly onto the knitting needle—this counts as your first cast-on stitch. To cast on additional stitches, keep the needle positioned behind the hook, yarn over the hook, pull through the loop on the hook, and transfer the new loop onto the needle each time. Repeat until you have the required number of stitches, then remove the crochet hook and begin knitting as instructed in your pattern. The video tutorial shows you how to perform this cast on if you are not familiar with it.
