Crochet Stitches Used For The Blanket
The stitch used throughout the blanket is just simple single crochet and an easy bobble stitch. If you are new to crochet, I have slower video tutorials available that will walk you through working the basic single crochet used in this pattern that you can watch before you start this project. Yarn Selection
Brava Worsted by Knit Picks/We Crochet is a 100% premium acrylic yarn known for its softness, durability, and affordability. Available in over 50 solid colors, as well as striped, speckled, and tweed variations, it offers a wide range of options for various projects . Each 100g skein provides 218 yards of yarn, making it suitable for afghans, garments, and accessories. The yarn is machine washable and tumble dryable, ensuring easy care for everyday use . The original blanket that was made in 2012 when I first released this pattern was made with Brava and still looks great today!
Other Yarn Options
If you’d like to substitute another yarn for the blanket, you’ll need about 3000 yards of worsted-weight yarn.

Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo is what I use in the video tutorial and is a classic, all-purpose worsted-weight acrylic yarn known for its durability and wide range of colors. Each jumbo skein offers a generous amount of yardage, making it ideal for large projects like blankets, home décor, and sweaters. It’s machine washable and designed to hold up well over time, even with frequent use. While it’s not the softest yarn out of the skein, it often softens with washing and is a reliable choice for budget-friendly crafting.

With over 1,000 yards per skein, it’s perfect for large projects like baby blankets, garments, and accessories. The yarn is machine washable and comes in a gentle palette of pastel and classic shades, making it especially popular for baby items and heirloom-quality gifts. Its smooth texture and easy care make it a favorite.
Crochet Hook Used For Pattern
You’ll need a 6mm [US-J] crochet hook for this project.
After testing numerous brands of crochet hooks, I’ve narrowed down my favorites. Below, you’ll find my top picks, ranked from least to most expensive.

Additional Supplies Needed
The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.
Stitch markers are an optional but helpful tool, and in the video tutorial below, I show you how to use them to make it easier to keep track of your stitches while working on your blanket.
I love the split ring ones below as they come in various sizes and are easy to take in and out of your project.
Gauge For Pattern
To achieve the same size as listed below, you will need the following gauge: 4”= 14 SCs and 18 rows in pattern. For this project, achieving an exact gauge isn’t critical, so don’t worry too much about it unless you want the exact same size blanket.

Bobble: All in same ST: [YO, insert hook in ST, YO and pull up loop, YO, pull through first 2 loops

Construction
The blanket is worked in rows back and forth with the border being worked in the round afterwards.

Special Instructions For The Pattern
- Read through the pattern before beginning.
- To simplify the written instructions in an easy-to-read form, the number of stitches to crochet is directly after the stitch to use. For example, “SC2, bobble1, SC2” means you are going to single crochet in the next 2 STS, bobble1 in the next ST, single crochet in the next 2 STS.
- Bobbles naturally pop to the back as you work, reversing the chart image.
- Tighten the first SC after each bobble to make it pop and keep your row even.
- The stitch count for all rows will be 125 STS.

RND 2: SL ST next 3 STS, CH 1, (SC, CH 3, 3 DC) all in same ST, skip next 2 STS, *(SC, CH 3, 3 DC) all in next ST, skip next 2 STS*; repeat from * to * around. Join RND with SL ST in 1st SC.
