Knit Tutorials

If you’re new to knitting, no worries! I have many beginner tutorial videos to guide you through every step of the process. My tutorials are designed to be easy to follow and will help you master the basics and beyond. You can use the search bar anytime to look for a particular stitch or technique.

Yarn Selection

The yarn I first used for this pattern has since been discontinued, but honestly, that just gives you more room to play. This scarf works wonderfully with nearly any aran or worsted weight yarn, so you can choose whatever fits your style and budget. Check out a few of my favorite picks below! Whatever yarn you choose, you will need about 300 yards if you want to make the exact same size as I have listed.

$

Lion Brand Wool-Ease is a versatile worsted weight yarn that combines the warmth of wool with the easy care of acrylic, making it perfect for a wide range of projects from garments to accessories and home décor. Soft and smooth with great stitch definition, it’s ideal for both knit and crochet patterns. Wool-Ease offers the comfort of natural fiber with the added durability and washability of a blended yarn, making it a freat choice for everyday accessories.

$$

Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool is a classic, 100% natural wool yarn known for its durability and warmth. This worsted-weight yarn is lightly processed, retaining its lanolin for added water resistance, making it ideal for sturdy, long-lasting projects. With its firm structure and worsted weight, Fisherman’s Wool is a great choice for places where it gets super chilly.

$$$

Knit Picks High Desert Worsted is a premium 100% American-grown wool yarn made from a luxurious blend of Merino and Merino-Rambouillet fibers. With a tight twist that delivers excellent stitch definition, it’s perfect for showcasing textured patterns and cables. The yarn comes in a beautiful palette of jewel-toned solids and rustic heathers, inspired by the high desert landscape. Soft yet durable, it’s a great choice for cozy garments and accessories.

Knitting Needles Used For Pattern

You can either use straight or circular needles for this project in a size 5mm [US-8]. I always prefer circular needles so I can move my project to the cord when I’m not working on it to ensure nothing falls off. Some of my favorite needs are made by Chia Goo. Their Stainless Steel Needles help the yarn glide like butter and the cord is made from nylon which keeps it untangled.

I’ve included some other great needles that I love below at different price points.

This affordable bamboo knitting needle set from Amazon has every size you’ll need to tackle any project. The smooth, lightweight bamboo makes them comfortable to use and helps prevent stitches from slipping off your needles.

If you’re starting out, a bamboo needle set is a great cost-effective choice—but if you’re serious about knitting and ready to invest, the Addi Click Set – Short Lace is in a league of its own. With sharp lace tips, smooth joins, and flexible cords, these needles make even the most intricate projects faster, easier, and more enjoyable.

Additional Supplies Needed

The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.

Gauge For Pattern

Gauge is 4”= 14 sts and 24 rows in pattern to make the same size pictured. However, you don’t have to worry about gauge unless you want it the exact same size. Scarves are great projects for those of us (like me) who don’t enjoy having to make gauge before starting. Important note though, be sure to watch the video tutorial to understand how to measure your yarn so you don’t run out before the 2nd edging is completed.

Pin For Later

If you’re not ready to start the project yet, pin this page to head back quickly.

Finished Measurements

The finished size of the scarf (when gauge is followed) is approx. 9” wide x 60″ long.

Construction

The scarf is worked flat in rows. The edging is a mirror and special care needs to be taken to not run out of yarn. Be sure to watch the video tutorial on how to measure your yarn before beginning.
