For a timeless and elegant look, this variation uses DK weight yarn. The lighter yarn weight ensures a delicate texture, perfect for adding a touch of sophistication to your wardrobe.

Recommended Yarn

While the yarn listed in the pattern below is no longer available (RIP Craftsy), here is a great alternative that I love.

Swish DK yarn from Knit Picks (affiliate link) is a dream come true for knitters and crocheters seeking soft, versatile, and durable yarn. Made from 100% superwash merino wool, it’s perfect for a wide range of projects, from cozy cowls to delicate baby garments. The yarn’s smooth texture and vibrant colors make every stitch pop, while its machine-washable nature ensures easy care.

Glow-in-the-Dark Basketweave Cowl (Worsted Weight Yarn)

Add a fun twist to your cowl with this glow-in-the-dark variation. By running a glow-in-the-dark thread along with worsted weight yarn, you’ll create a cowl that stands out both day and night.

Yarn Used

For the glow-in-the-dark cowl I used some of the acrylic yarn I recently received from my Temu haul. Stay tuned for my upcoming review video, where I’ll share my detailed thoughts and experiences, and help you decide if this affordable option is worth adding to your stash.

I received some free glow-in-the-dark yarn from Bling Bling Yarn (another review video will follow for this as well, but you can pick some up with discount code: knitandcrocheteverafter now). I chose to pair a lace-weight thread with the base color to create the glowing effect. They have great colors in many weights though, so you could make the cowl completely out of worsted-weight glow yarn.

Crochet Techniques and Tips

Both patterns utilize the basketweave stitch, which involves alternating front post and back post double crochets. If you’re new to this technique, don’t worry! The video tutorial below will guide you through each step, ensuring your cowl turns out beautifully.

f elegance to your creations. The smooth texture and vibrant hues make it great for scarves and shawls.

The structured yarn allows you to wear the leg warmers high on your calves or squish them down around your ankles. They would also make great boot toppers having the ribbed section fold over the top.
