Crochet Tutorials

If you’re new to crochet, no worries! I have many beginner tutorial videos to guide you through every step of the process. My tutorials are designed to be easy to follow and will help you master the basics and beyond. You can use the search bar anytime to look for a particular stitch or technique.

Crochet Stitches Used For The Scarf

For the scarf, we will be using the double crochet stitch throughout. I have beginner tutorials on this stitch if you need a slower start. Click on the stitch to be taken to those.

Suggested Yarn

This scarf was made with Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable Yarn. It is a popular 100% acrylic, worsted-weight yarn known for its soft, roving feel and stunning long color transitions that create almost watercolor-like effects as you knit or crochet. It’s machine washable for easy care and widely loved for its rich, bold palettes and effortless drape in finished pieces. The pictured scarf is made in colorway Tealberry.

Other Yarn Options

If you’d like to substitute another yarn for the scarf, look for any yarn in worsted weight, you will need approximately 525 yards for the same size scarf noted below.

Below are some other options that are a great substitute for the Unforgettable, at multiple price points.

$

Brava Worsted by Knit Picks/We Crochet is a 100% premium acrylic yarn known for its softness, durability, and affordability. Available in over 50 solid colors, as well as striped, speckled, and tweed variations, it offers a wide range of options for various projects.

$$

Knit Picks Chroma Worsted yarn is an absolute delight, especially if you’re a fan of self-striping yarns like me. This yarn boasts a soft and smooth texture, making it a pleasure to work with. Its unique color transitions create stunning stripes and gradients, ensuring that every project is a visual treat. Made from a blend of superwash wool and nylon, it offers both warmth and durability.

Crochet Hook Used For Pattern

You’ll need a 6mm [US-J] crochet hook for this project.

After testing numerous brands of crochet hooks, I’ve narrowed down my favorites. Below, you’ll find my top picks, ranked from least to most expensive.

$

Clover Soft Touch Amour crochet hooks are my absolute favorite! Their comfy, soft handles make long crochet sessions a breeze.

$$

For just slightly more money, Etimo Tulip Crochet hooks are another winner in my book. With their cushioned, ergonomic handles and smooth hooks, they make crocheting with any kind of yarn super easy.

$$$

For those of you who like to splurge, Furls Crochet hooks are beautiful hooks made from resin, wood, and metal. Their ergonomic design and polished surfaces make each stitch smooth and effortless. Treat yourself to these elegant hooks for a truly premium crochet experience.

Additional Supplies Needed

The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.

Gauge For Pattern

To achieve the same size as listed below, you will need the following gauge: 4″ = 17 STS and 8 rows in pattern. However, with this being a scarf, gauge is not terribly important unless you want to make the exact same size scarf as noted below.

Finished Measurements

The finished scarf, when following gauge, will be approx. 12″ wide x 48″ long.

Special Stitches Used in Pattern

DC2TOG (double crochet 2 together): With loop on your hook, yo, insert your hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop, yo, pull loop through first two loops on hook, yo, insert your hook into the next stitch after and pull up another loop, yo, pull through first two loops on hook, yo and pull through all three loops on your hook.

Tall CH: This will be used instead of a beginning CH 3. You will pull up a loop as tall as a DC, then lock it in with another CH. Your first DC will be worked in the first ST of the row. The tall CH does not count as a stitch. This will eliminate the gap at the beginning of the RND.

See video tutorial for help.
