Punk Lemonade Scarf
This scarf is the perfect project for that gorgeous variegated yarn you’ve been wondering how to use. You’ll pair one solid color with one variegated yarn, which really lets the color changes shine while adding lots of fun texture along the way.
You’ll find everything you need to knit the scarf below, including the yarn, knitting needles, and a free pattern. If you like this pattern, please share it!

Knit Tutorials
If you’re new to knitting, no worries! I have many beginner tutorial videos to guide you through every step of the process. My tutorials are designed to be easy to follow and will help you master the basics and beyond. You can use the search bar anytime to look for a particular stitch or technique.
Yarn Selection

The scarf was made with fingering weight Madelinetosh Yarn in a variegated and solid hue. This yarn is hand-dyed and comes in such beautiful colors as the one below. I used Approx. 275 yards of Madelinetosh 80/10/10 in Edison Bulb CA, and approx. 400 yards of Madelinetosh 80/10/10 in Dream Ride CB.
If substituting the yarn, use a solid for CA and a variegated for CB to achieve the same look as the sample.
Knitting Needles Used For Pattern
You can either use straight or circular needles for this project. I always prefer circular needles so I can move my project to the cord when I’m not working on it to ensure nothing falls off. Some of my favorite needs are made by Chia Goo. Their Stainless Steel Needles help the yarn glide like butter and the cord is made from nylon which keeps it untangled.

I’ve included some other great needles that I love below at different price points.

This affordable bamboo knitting needle set from Amazon has every size you’ll need to tackle any project. The smooth, lightweight bamboo makes them comfortable to use and helps prevent stitches from slipping off your needles.

If you’re starting out, a bamboo needle set is a great cost-effective choice—but if you’re serious about knitting and ready to invest, the Addi Click Set – Short Lace is in a league of its own. With sharp lace tips, smooth joins, and flexible cords, these needles make even the most intricate projects faster, easier, and more enjoyable.
Additional Supplies Needed
The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.

Gauge For Pattern
Gauge is 4”= 29 sts and 30 rows in pattern to make the same size pictured. However, you don’t have to worry about gauge unless you want it the exact same size. Scarves are great projects for those of us (like me) who don’t enjoy having to make gauge before starting.
Pin For Later
If you’re not ready to start the project yet, pin this page to head back quickly.

Finished Measurements
The finished size of the scarf (when gauge is followed) is approx. 13” wide x 60″ long. A super wrappable scarf to keep you warm all winter.
Construction
The scarf is worked flat in rows.
Special Stitches
p2tog tbl (purl 2 together through the back loop): Insert the right-hand needle from right to left into the back loops of the next two stitches at the same time (you may need to slightly twist the tips of the needles to reach behind the stitches). Wrap the working yarn around the right needle as you would for a normal purl, then draw the yarn through both stitches together. Slide the original stitches off the left needle. I have a tutorial on just this stitch if you would like to get familiar with it before you start the project.
