Blushing Blooms Blanket
The Blushing Blooms Baby Blanket is a beautiful crochet project that lets self-striping yarn do some of the colorwork for you. Paired with a coordinating solid color, the textured stitch pattern creates rows of pretty flower-like blooms that really stand out. Crochet Stitch Used For The Blanket
The main stitches used throughout the blanket are single and double crochet. If you are new to crochet, I have slower video tutorials available that will walk you through working a single crochet or double crochet that you can watch before you start this project.
Yarn Selection
The pictured blanket is made with Caron Cakes in the following colors and yardage:
- 225 yards Powdered Sugar (17071) CA
- 380 yards Buttercream (17003) CB
If you would like to substitute the yarn, you can choose any medium worsted weight yarn you like.
Crochet Hook Used For Pattern
You’ll need a 6.5mm crochet hook for this project. The slightly larger size than is called for on the ball band will give you extra drape in your blanket.
Your options are somewhat limited once you pass 6mm on crochet hooks, but after testing different kinds, I’ve got my two favorite below at different price points.

Pyrm is my favorite plastic crochet hook brand. Yarn glides smoothly and the shaft is the whole body so you don’t run out of room when working with multiple strands. I also love how pointy the inline head is so it is easy to get through stitches.

For those of you who like to splurge, Furls Crochet hooks have beautiful resin hooks that are super lightweight and work wonderfully. They have tons of different styles for large crochet hooks so you can pick your favorite colors or mix and match.
Additional Supplies Needed
The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.
Gauge For Pattern
To achieve the same sizes as listed below, you will need the following gauge: 4”= 12 STS x 8 rows in pattern.

Special Stitches Used in Pattern
Tall CH: This will be used instead of a beginning CH 3. You will pull up a loop as tall as a DC, then lock it in with another CH. Your first DC will be worked in the first ST of the row. The tall CH does not count as a stitch. This will eliminate the gap at the beginning of the row.
2DC Cluster: [YO, insert hook, pull up loop, YO, pull through first 2 loops on hook] 2 times, YO, pull through remaining 3 loops on hook.
Construction
The blanet is worked flat in rows and then the border is worked in the round at the end.

Special Instructions For The Pattern
- Read through the pattern before beginning.
- Switch to new color at the last stitch of previous row, run tails along edge to pick up when they are needed again.
- Row 1 instructions mention CH/ST due to it being used as a repeat Row after. Reference CH for Row 1 and reference ST for all repeats after.
Blanket Instructions
With CB, CH 72.
Row 1: Turn, DC in 4 CH/ST from hook, CH 3, 2DC cluster in 3 CH from hook, *DC3TOG, CH 3, 2DC cluster in 3 CH; repeat from * across to last 2 CH/STs, DC2TOG.
Row 2: Turn, Tall CH, DC 2 times in 1 ST, skip 2DC Cluster of row below, *DC 3 times into DC3TOG of row below, skip 2DC Cluster of row below; repeat from * across to last ST, DC 2 times in last ST.
Rows 3-4: With CA, Turn, CH 1, SC in each ST across.
Rows 5 – 50: Repeat Rows 1-4 ending with a Row 2 repeat.
Border
Rnds 1 -2: With CA, SC evenly around entire blanket making 3 SCs in each corner to make turn. Join RND with SL ST in 1st SC.
Rnd 3: CH 1, SC in 1 ST, CH 3, *SC in next ST, CH 3; repeat in each ST around. Join RND with SL ST in 1 SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
