Crochet Tutorials
If you’re new to crochet, no worries! I have many beginner tutorial videos to guide you through every step of the process. My tutorials are designed to be easy to follow and will help you master the basics and beyond. You can use the search bar anytime to look for a particular stitch or technique.
Main Crochet Stitch Used For The Washcloth
The main stitch used throughout the washcloth is double crochet. If you are new to crochet I have slower video tutorials available that will walk you through working the double crochet used in this pattern that you can watch before you start this project.

Yarn Selection

I used approx. 60 yards of some colorful yarn from Knit Picks/We Crochet for the pattern. Dishie is a versatile, worsted weight 100% cotton yarn from Knit Picks and We Crochet, known for its durability and high absorbency. Its tight spin makes it easy to work with, ensuring projects maintain their shape and functionality over time. Available in a wide range of vibrant colors, it brings both practicality and a pop of color to any project.
If you substitute yarn, be sure it is 100% cotton in worsted weight to ensure it works well as a washcloth and that it is the same size.
Crochet Hook Used For Pattern
You’ll need a 5mm [US- H] hook for this project.
After testing numerous brands of crochet hooks, I’ve narrowed down my favorites. Below, you’ll find my top picks, ranked from least to most expensive.
$

Clover Soft Touch Amour crochet hooks are my absolute favorite! Their comfy, soft handles make long crochet sessions a breeze.
$$

Etimo Tulip Crochet hooks are another winner in my book. With their cushioned, ergonomic handles and smooth hooks, they make crocheting with any kind of yarn super easy. I love the red color of this one.
$$$

For those of you who like to splurge, Furls Crochet hooks are beautiful hooks made from resin, wood, and metal. Their ergonomic design and polished surfaces make each stitch smooth and effortless. Treat yourself to these elegant hooks for a truly premium crochet experience.
Additional Supplies Needed
The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.

Gauge For Pattern
To achieve the same size as listed below, you will need the following gauge: 2”= 8 STS in
pattern. For this project, achieving an exact gauge isn’t critical, so don’t worry too much about it.
Video Tutorial
The video tutorial will walk you through the pattern so all levels of crocheters can make this cute home accessory project.
Pin For Later
If you’re not ready to start the project yet, pin this page to head back quickly.

Finished Measurements
If following gauge, you can expect the washcloth to measure approx. 9″ across.

Construction
The washcloth is crocheted in the round, starting from the center and working outward. The hanging loop is seamlessly built into the design as you go, ensuring it’s both sturdy and secure for everyday use.

This is an awesome project! I’m a beginner and my problem is that I can’t read written patterns yet. So I stick to videos for now. All the important details are pointed out in this video which is super helpful. I will use this little star as a decorative item or a hot pad, as I don’t really use washcloths (but it looked so pretty on the picture that I decided to make it anyway). I first tried to use acrylic yarn but it didn’t work out – cotton yarn is really essential here. Thank you so much for this tutorial! Maybe you have some tutorial on reading crochet patterns for dummies? ))

I have just stumbled across your website, and signed up to follow and receive your blogs. I am very interested and intriqued to be able to take some time and really get to know you. I stumbled across the starfish washcloth tutorial and video and got quite excited. I love to learn new things and ideas, and am really looking forward to hearing from you and your blog. I am going to sit down tonite and watch the video and crochet along with you. Looking really forward to that, as doing this helps relax me, and I actually get quite excited. We need more people/teachers that will take the time to try to teach others. Thank you very much, Kelly

Thank you so much for your tutorial. I’m very skilled at knitting, and very intimidated by crochet, mostly because I don’t know what hole to go into next. Your tutorial helped me figure it out and I’ve already made at least a dozen of these charming starfish washcloths. It’s a great project for when I’m out somewhere, and I can leave my complicated knitting at home. Thanks!

That is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing and giving the kind words!!
