Yarn Selection
The yarn used for the pictured scarf is Cascade Yarns Merino Dream Hand Painted inj Color 107. It’s not available anymore, but any solid or variegated fingering weight yarn will work wonderfully. You will need approx. 425 yards to make the same size pictured. I’ve included some other great options below at every price point.

Brava Sport Yarn from WeCrochet is a versatile, budget-friendly acrylic yarn known for its softness, durability, and vibrant color range. This lightweight sport-weight yarn is perfect for a variety of projects, from garments and accessories to blankets and amigurumi. Machine washable and easy to care for, Brava Sport is a great choice for everyday use.

Berroco Alpaca Light Yarn is a luxurious and versatile yarn known for its exceptional softness and warmth. Made from 100% baby alpaca fibers, it boasts a delicate texture that feels incredibly gentle against the skin. This yarn is ideal for creating lightweight garments and accessories such as scarves, shawls, and hats, offering both comfort and elegance. With its wide range of beautiful colors and superb stitch definition, it would make a perfect choice for this scarf.

Capretta Superwash Yarn from WeCrochet is a luxurious blend of merino wool, cashmere, and nylon, offering a soft and smooth feel with excellent stitch definition. This fingering-weight yarn is perfect for elegant accessories and lightweight garments. The added nylon enhances durability, while the superwash treatment makes it easy to care for, allowing for machine washing without sacrificing its plush texture.
Knitting Needles Used For Pattern
You can either use straight or circular needles for this project in a size 2.5mm [US-1.5]. I always prefer circular needles so I can move my project to the cord when I’m not working on it to ensure nothing falls off. Some of my favorite needs are made by Chia Goo. Their Stainless Steel Needles help the yarn glide like butter and the cord is made from nylon which keeps it untangled.

I’ve included some other great needles that I love below at different price points.

This affordable bamboo knitting needle set from Amazon has every size you’ll need to tackle any project. The smooth, lightweight bamboo makes them comfortable to use and helps prevent stitches from slipping off your needles.

If you’re starting out, a bamboo needle set is a great cost-effective choice—but if you’re serious about knitting and ready to invest, the Addi Click Set – Short Lace is in a league of its own. With sharp lace tips, smooth joins, and flexible cords, these needles make even the most intricate projects faster, easier, and more enjoyable.
Additional Supplies Needed
You will need two stitch markers I love how cute ChiaoGoo Stitch Markers are but they are also great stitch markers. They slide easily and come in many sizes in one package so you have one for every project you can think of.

The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.

Gauge For Pattern
Gauge is 4”= 16 sts and 24 rows in pattern to make the same size pictured. However, you don’t have to worry about gauge unless you want it the exact same size. Scarves are great projects for those of us (like me) who don’t enjoy having to make gauge before starting. Just be sure to note that your yardage requirements may change if you do not follow gauge.
Pin For Later
If you’re not ready to start the project yet, pin this page to head back quickly.

Finished Measurements
The finished size of the scarf (when gauge is followed) is approx. 9” wide x 60″ long.
Construction
The scarf is worked flat in rows. You will use stitch markers to note where your edging is to make the simple repeat easy to work.

Special Stitches
p2tog (purl 2 together): With yarn held in front, insert the right-hand needle from right to left into the front loops of the next two stitches at the same time. Wrap the working yarn around the right needle as you would for a normal purl, then draw the yarn through both stitches together. I have a tutorial on just this stitch if you would like to get familiar with it before you start the project.
