Artic Ember Infinity Scarf
This is an easy infinity scarf that works up fairly quickly. If you’ve never worked with sport-weight yarn, or changed colors, now is the time to try. In the video, I will also show you how to change colors without having to cut your yarn at the end of your row.
You’ll find everything you need to crochet the blanket below, including the yarn, crochet hook, a free pattern, and a video tutorial that includes how to make it bigger. If you like this pattern, please share it!

Crochet Tutorials
If you’re new to crochet, no worries! I have many beginner tutorial videos to guide you through every step of the process. My tutorials are designed to be easy to follow and will help you master the basics and beyond. You can use the search bar anytime to look for a particular stitch or technique.
Crochet Stitches Used For The Scarf
The stitch used throughout the scarf is double crochet and increasing and decreasing in the same stitch. If you are new to crochet, I have slower video tutorials available that will walk you through working the basic double crochet used in this pattern that you can watch before you start this project. Then watch the video tutorial below to learn how to increase and decrease.
Yarn Selection

The yarn used in this pattern is Blue Sky Alpaca sport weight in the colors: Red (511) CA and Capri (539) CB. Alpaca yarn is incredibly soft and Blue Sky has beautiful, vibrant colors that I love. If you are substituting yarn, you will need approx. 200 yards of CA and 100 yards of CB in a sport weight.
Crochet Hook Used For Pattern
You’ll need a 5mm [US-H] crochet hook for this project.
After testing numerous brands of crochet hooks, I’ve narrowed down my favorites. Below, you’ll find my top picks, ranked from least to most expensive.
$

Clover Soft Touch Amour crochet hooks are my absolute favorite! Their comfy, soft handles make long crochet sessions a breeze.
$$

For just slightly more money, Etimo Tulip Crochet hooks are another winner in my book. With their cushioned, ergonomic handles and smooth hooks, they make crocheting with any kind of yarn super easy.
$$$

For those of you who like to splurge, Furls Crochet hooks are beautiful hooks made from resin, wood, and metal. Their ergonomic design and polished surfaces make each stitch smooth and effortless. Treat yourself to these elegant hooks for a truly premium crochet experience.
Additional Supplies Needed
The only other thing you will need is a yarn needle to weave in the ends. My favorite yarn needles are made of metal, they are easy to slide through any yarn. I like the Susan Bates option below.

Gauge For Pattern
To achieve the same size as listed below, you will need the following gauge: 4”= 16 DCs and 7 rows in pattern. For this project, achieving an exact gauge isn’t critical, so don’t worry too much about it unless you want the exact same size scarf.
Finished Measurements
If you follow the gauge with the required amount of yardage, you can expect the scarf to measure 7.5″ wide by 46″ around. Again, gauge is not super important unless you want the exact same-sized scarf.

Special Stitch Used in Pattern
DC3TOG: [YO, insert hook into next ST, YO, pull up loop, YO, pull loop through first two loops] 3 times, YO, pull loop through all four remaining loops on hook. This turns three stitches into one.
DC Fan: DC 3 times into the next ST.
Tall CH (can be used in place of CH 3): Pull up a loop as tall as a DC, then lock it in with another CH. Your first DC will be worked in the first ST of the row. The tall CH does not count as a stitch. This will eliminate the gap at the beginning of the RND.
Construction
The pattern is worked flat in row and then joined at the end. A border is then worked around both sides.
Abbreviations Used
CA/CB: color A/color B
CH: chain
DC: double crochet
DC3TOG: double crochet 3 together
RND: round
SC: single crochet
ST(S): stitch(es)
[…] x times: stitch repeat, work the stitches contained within the brackets the number of times as stated directly after the brackets

Special Instructions for Pattern
- Read through the pattern before beginning.
- CH 3 counts as a DC throughout.
- You may work a tall chain in place of a CH 3 (see instructions above).
- If substituting yarn, be sure to divide CA into two balls of yarn if it is not already packaged that way. The 2nd ball will be added at the end of Row 1 to have a tail of CA on each side of the project. This will allow you to work the scarf without having to cut the yarn after each color change. See the video tutorial for more information about this.
- Remember not to fasten off the yarn after each row, it will be picked up every third row.
- At the last stitch of each row the next ball of color will be joined. The instructions will remind you, then make the join during the last stitch.

Join in CA tail.
Note: This is the tail that was dropped 2 rows ago on this side of the work. Run it up along the side of the project, leave a little slack so the scarf can still stretch. You will cover all these running tails with the border at the end. See the step-by-step video tutorial if more help is needed.

Rows 7-81: Repeat Rows 4-6. 31 STS
Do not fasten off either tails of CA at the end of the scarf, you will use them for the border.
At the end of Row 81 fasten off CB with a long enough tail for whip stitching the scarf together (about double the width of the scarf will be sufficient).
Joining
With right sides facing each other, use the arn needle to whip stitch the ends of the scarf together to join.
Finishing
Turn right side out. With each ball of CA still attached to opposite sides, use the yarn to SC around each edge of the scarf. Join RND with a SL ST in first SC.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
